In 2024, we welcomed 155 new members! We are now supporting, connecting, and providing spaces and resources to more than 2700 changemakers leading transformative abortion justice movements in 125 countries.
Our members are made up of abortion justice collectives, activists, community workers, researchers, abortion providers, funders, grassroots groups, and more, who are powering the resilient abortion justice movement needed to make long-lasting change worldwide.
10 Years of Stigma-Busting Abortion Justice
We reached a decade of collective action to build a world free from abortion stigma! To mark this milestone and share our journey, we launched a 10-year summary report. We also hosted a community event that brought together members from across the globe to reflect on our shared journeys and envision the future of abortion justice together.
In 2024, inroads funded and accompanied 7 grantee partners from Malawi, Colombia, Mexico, El Salvador, Sri Lanka, Côte d’Ivoire, and more. With our collective support, they were able to:
inroads’ flexible and participatory funding for stigma-busting abortion work is centered on breaking the many layers of stigma surrounding abortion justice work, including grassroots collectives who are unable to legally register due to restrictive and stigmatizing contexts. In a world that can be full of stigma, our funding values can be extremely rare, even unique. As such, hundreds of grassroots collectives come to us for much-needed funding and support, as evidenced by our last round of applications, where we received over 180 proposals.
Reflecting on years of learning, experiences, and inputs from our communities, and with a commitment to intersectionality and long-term movement sustainability, we evolved our resourcing model to the inroads Abortion Community Care Fund 🌱
The Abortion Community Care Fund, led by the inroads global community, aims to respond to the needs and dreams of abortion stigma busters worldwide: Flexible funding that sustains their work, supports their care and collective power, sparks collaborations, and ensures their resistance and persistence amid threats, criminalization, and compounding crises.
As a member working on abortion efforts in Venezuela shared: “Weurgently need funding. It is really complex for us to obtain resourcing for our type of work.”
The Abortion Community Care Fund aims to support our community through three resourcing streams:

In 2024, we
💚Celebrated the launch of the inroads Body and Territory: Abortion Justice Fellowship Anthology! This powerful session brought together inroads fellows, community members, and advocates to amplify abortion justice efforts centered on autonomy, ownership, and territory. The fellows shared their experiences and insights from the 2023 Fellowship with the wider community, exploring themes like rural resources, decolonization, caste discrimination, and indigenous land movements. 💚

💚 Facilitated multiple stigma-busting spaces at the Abortion & Reproductive Justice Conference 2024.
💚Co-hosted an in-person session to spotlight abortion justice movements in crisis and authoritarian contexts at the Human Rights Funder Network Conference. In partnership with Fòs Feministas and Channel Foundation, this session centered on the experiences of front-line reproductive justice groups and highlighted the intersection of bodily autonomy, equality, and citizenship. It provided a critical platform for funders to learn from abortion rights defenders achieving victories despite crises, stigmatization, and anti-gender organizing.
💚Co-convened the 2024 Global Safe Abortion Dialogue (GSAD) in partnership with multiple allies. This virtual conference brought together 484 advocates from 75 countries to strategize and resource our shared efforts for abortion justice. At this space, inroads hosted the virtual masterclass Understanding and Transforming Abortion Stigma in Practice. A session guiding participants through defining abortion stigma, exploring its intersectional impact on marginalized groups, and developing actionable strategies to destigmatize abortion through advocacy and storytelling.
Additionally, inroads amplified and included 355 new stigma-busting resources, publications, and tools to the inroads Community Library through our renovated & interactive Community Workspace – which also serves as a dynamic virtual safe space for power building & solidarity amongst our members, now growing to connect over 1300 users!

In 2024, we
💚Convened the Global Day to Destigmatize Abortions. On March 28, 2024, inroads led the co-convening of the first Global Day of Action to Destigmatize Abortions, coordinating with over 180 organizations and reaching over 1.7 million people globally. This campaign challenged abortion stigma with the message, “Abortions are a normal part of reproductive journeys.” The day featured webinars, workshops, and creative initiatives addressing abortion stigma, funding justice movements, and shifting narratives. The launch of march28.org provided a hub for resources and ongoing action.
💚Co-produced the International Safe Abortion Day Campaign, an effort that provided resources, toolkits, and increased collective power to mobilize communities and stakeholders around the world to demand safe abortion access for all. We are proud to have proposed and supported the development of this year’s framing theme centering on our Unstoppable Movement alongside powerful allies.
💚Hosted a stigma-busting Artivism Workshop at the 4th International Exchange for Safe Abortion Rights Advocacy. This interactive space led activists in a process to harness the power of art and storytelling to shift abortion narratives and inspire action. Through guided poetry writing, body mapping of reproductive experiences, and stigma-busting songwriting, the workshop fostered connection, self-expression, and transformative advocacy. Participants left excited to integrate artivism into their local reproductive justice movements.
💚Launched our new course: Intersectionality & Reproductive Justice to Dismantle Abortion Stigma. This interactive course explores how disability justice, queer abortions, and self-managed abortions intersect with abortion stigma, offering foundational knowledge to address stigma within the broader context of systemic oppression. It’s designed to deepen activists’ understanding and expand their reproductive justice work in new, intersectional ways.
💚Facilitated The Many Hands Holding Our Abortion Justice Ecosystem at AWID Forum 2024. This interactive session used abortion oracle cards designed by inroads to explore the diverse roles and structural challenges shaping the global abortion justice ecosystem. Participants reflected on shared experiences, reimagined resources, and envisioned collective actions for reproductive freedom and justice
Additionally, we contributed to the Steering Committee of the Feminist Leadership Hub hosted by One Future Collective and FAIR SHARE of Women Leaders.
In 2024, we
💚Produced the report Challenges and Opportunities to Improve Funding for Abortion Justice. Drawing insights from 47 abortion movement leaders across diverse countries, the report highlights the stark funding disparities faced by grassroots groups, with most relying on restricted project grants, volunteer work, and in-kind donations for sustainability. It sheds light on the urgent need to transform funding practices and outlines key barriers, challenges, and opportunities to better support grassroots movements driving transformative change in abortion access and rights.
💚Published the Body & Territory Abortion Justice Anthology, a transformative collection of narrative essays, resources, and research writing by inroads fellows that explore the intricate links between the body and territory. We invite the inroads community to use it as a resource to strengthen our movements in navigating the intersecting landscapes of abortion justice with a stigma-busting lens.
💚Crafted an Abortion Narrative Change Artivism Exhibition at the 2024 Funders for Reproductive Equity (FRE) Meeting, showcasing stigma-busting art from activists and collectives within the global abortion justice community. The in-person exhibition highlighted diverse, transformative works, including murals, zines, music, and visual art that reimagine abortion narratives grounded in care, liberation, and justice. It celebrated the cultural power of grassroots movements to shift abortion narratives and policies while inspiring funders to support artivism as a tool for systemic change.

All of this would not have been possible without the active support of our many members and partners. In 2024, we strengthened existing relationships with values-aligned partners within the abortion justice ecosystem and built numerous meaningful partnerships.
While the road ahead still presents challenges in the current feminist funding climate, particularly for smaller organizations like inroads, we remain deeply honored and grateful for the support of our flourishing partners and community.
This summary was just a glimpse of our work together last year.
We look forward to sharing more in our upcoming 2024 annual report and to continue shaping this powerful stigma-busting community together.
In solidarity and appreciation,
The inroads team
