inroads at Women Deliver 2023 | Recentering the Margins: Abortions and Intersectionality.

by

We are excited to share that we are co-organizing with a diverse group of inroads members and allies a powerful session at Women Deliver 2023 titled Re-centering the Margins: Abortions and Intersectionality.

About the session

“Much emerges from [those] who live at the center, whose perspectives on reality rarely include the lives of [people] who live on the margin.” – bell hooks.

This session seeks to highlight and re-center perspectives on reproductive and abortion justice from activists and leaders of historically marginalized communities, namely LGBTQIA+, people living with disabilities, youth, and those from Global Majority countries affected by neocolonial global funding mechanisms and conflict.

Bringing together experts that hold intersecting identities from the Global Majority, this session will re-frame who should be at the center of conversations around abortion access. As experts in this space, the speakers will share their experiences as leaders of their communities with the audience. Together, we will discuss recommendations for creating an inclusive and intersectional global abortion movement, free from stigma and grounded in feminist theory, to continue weaving a collective narrative of intersectionality in the pursuit of reproductive justice for all.

Date & Time: Wednesday, July, from 9:30 to 11:00 am (Rwanda local time)
Location: Room MH 2.2 in the Women Deliver 2023 conference venue in Kigali, Rwanda.

About Women Deliver 2023:

Women Deliver conferences seek to enable inclusive and co-created spaces that foster solidarity for sustainable solutions on gender equality. The Women Deliver 2023 Conference (WD2023) will take place in person in Kigali, Rwanda, as well as virtually, from 17-20 July 2023. As one of the largest multi-sectoral convenings to advance gender equality, WD2023 will convene 6,000 people in Kigali and 200,000+ people online through the virtual Conference.

inroads approach:

We organize and support inroads members’ participation in key convening spaces as part of our commitment to amplifying the voices, dreams, and efforts of our powerful stigma-busting community and raising awareness, building solidarity, and ensuring participation in strategic spaces and processes.  In an effort to correct the inequitable compensation and volunteerism trend in the traditional global development sector, we are also committed to ensuring that members who contribute their wisdom and lived experiences at key convening spaces receive just compensation for their offerings and allocate inroads resources to do so.
