The Impact of the US Election 2024

Posted November 7, 2024 by the inroads team

As we grieve the results of the 2024 United States presidential election and the harmful impact it will have on reproductive rights and justice both in the U.S. and around the world, we are reminded of the challenges and threats we continue to face as a global community working toward abortion justice.

With an emboldened anti-rights and misogynistic agenda, inroads is more committed than ever to nurturing frontline movements advancing reproductive justice, transforming stigmatizing narratives and policies, and enabling access to essential abortion healthcare even in the most complex settings.

We are in a fight for collective liberation. Abortion bans and stigmatizing reproductive policies are not just political decisions; they are tools of gender violence that strip us of our bodily autonomy, force us into unsafe situations, and perpetuate cycles of harm, oppression, and isolation.

Yet, the resources needed to sustain our work—financial, digital, emotional, and human—are also directly under threat. Over the past decade, we’ve seen firsthand the local and global harm of anti-rights policies led by the past Trump administration, like the Global Gag Rule,  and its impact on rights and safety. Now, more than ever, our movement needs robust, long-term funding commitments to meet these challenges head-on. Instead, we have been facing shrinking funding streams and reduced political will to support our movements.

Support us in powering the abortion justice movement globally.

Together, as a network of individuals, collectives, and organizations, we will continue to support each other across movements and mobilize toward a world where each person can access the full spectrum of reproductive rights on their own terms, free from stigma and discrimination.

Today, we grieve, but we also reaffirm our purpose and commitment to show up for each other. Tomorrow, we keep building and fighting back—with fearless solidarity and unwavering care for our communities.

Join us!
