DONATEIn October, we held a powerful session on “Intersectionality & Reproductive Justice to Dismantle Abortion Stigma” with insights from Lilian from Women Spaces Africa, Yawar from Mano Diversa, Camila from Women Help Women, and Amanda, Maria, & Tabitha from the inroads team.
Our panel explored the intersection of abortion stigma with disability justice, self-managed and queer abortions, and highlighted how to leverage technology and the power of cross-movement collaboration to advance reproductive rights and justice for all💡Together; we celebrated the launch of our co-created online course to dismantle abortion stigma, grounded in intersectional perspectives and movement learnings.
Here are some powerful reflections from the panel:
🔈 Maria:
“We noticed a gap—most existing courses or knowledge tools don’t address the power dynamics behind abortion stigma. To change that, we co-created this course with diverse movements, centering intersectionality to reflect our communities’ needs and different experiences.” 💡
🔈 Camila:
“Intersectional collaboration across movements helps us imagine a more radical approach to abortion justice, shift who shapes the narrative, and meet people where they are.”💚
🔈 Yawar:
“In my country, trans men often face a choice: gender identity or reproductive rights. As trans men, some reproductive health services are no longer available to us. This must change. Intersectionality is vital in our movements.” 🏳️⚧️
🔈 Lilian:
“Too often, stigma within the SRHR movement itself blocks access to services; for example, we see some donors who support SRHR but do not want to fund abortion work. They should take this course to see why it’s all connected.” 🌐
The event featured a stigma-busting musical repertoire developed by inroads grantee partners that harness political artivism to contribute to the social and cultural decriminalization of abortion🎶💚—they currently wish to remain anonymous due to high-risk restrictions in their country.
